Summary

Harkening to Agatha Christie’s classic And Then There Were None, this high-tension and ingenious thriller follows five couples trapped on a storm-swept island as a killer stalks among them—from Ruth Ware, the New York Times bestselling author who “is turning out to be as ingenious and indefatigable as the Queen of Crime” (The Washington Post)。

Lyla is in a bit of a rut。 Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she’s pretty sure they won’t extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren’t going great。 When the opportunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, The Perfect Couple, she decides to try out with him。 A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla find herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, boating through the Indian Ocean towards Ever After Island, where the two of them will compete against four other couples—Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi, and Conor and Zana—in order to win a cash prize。

But not long after they arrive on the deserted island, things start to go wrong。 After the first challenge leaves everyone rattled and angry, an overnight storm takes matters from bad to worse。 Cut off from the mainland by miles of ocean, deprived of their phones, and unable to contact the crew that brought them there, the group must band together for survival。 As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla finds that this game show is all too real—and the stakes are life or death。

A fast-paced, spellbinding thriller rife with intrigue and characters that feel so true to life, this novel proves yet again that Ruth Ware is the queen of psychological suspense。

This book is fast paced and has a lot of twists and turns。 However it is hard to follow all the characters in the beginning。 I loved it as I started reading it but lost interest as I got further into the book。I love Ruth Ware books, but this does not compare to her other books。By the end of the book I didn’t care how it ended。 I just wanted to finish reading it。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book。

I won a copy of this book on a Goodreads giveaway。 Very engrossing, and kept me surprised, which is a great feature for a mystery。 I have now just purchased 2 other books by this author。

This was my first Ruth Ware book and a very fun read, one of those books you can't put down because you're so eager to know what happens。 Lyla, a scientist in her early thirties, agrees to accompany her boyfriend (in spite of her reservations) to participate on a reality TV show set on a remote island in the Indian Ocean。 Though this premise didn't feel very realistic, watching what happened after a storm hit the island and the participants were stranded was highly intriguing。 I did expect this This was my first Ruth Ware book and a very fun read, one of those books you can't put down because you're so eager to know what happens。 Lyla, a scientist in her early thirties, agrees to accompany her boyfriend (in spite of her reservations) to participate on a reality TV show set on a remote island in the Indian Ocean。 Though this premise didn't feel very realistic, watching what happened after a storm hit the island and the participants were stranded was highly intriguing。 I did expect this book to be more of a murder mystery, when in fact it was more of a survival tale, with questions as to who would survive and how it would all end。 Would recommend if you enjoy thrillers and are looking for a fun read! 。。。more

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but One Perfect Couple fell flat for me。 Now, with that said, it’s clear that Ruth Ware is an auto-read author for me。 Hell, an auto-buy author。 I own all of her books and I’ve loved them all。 I think of In A Dark, Dark Wood almost daily, because it was the first time I experience how talented Ruth Ware is at creating atmosphere in her books, and One Perfect Couple was no exception。 The pace was fantastic, the tension thick, the premise anxiety inducing。 Th I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but One Perfect Couple fell flat for me。 Now, with that said, it’s clear that Ruth Ware is an auto-read author for me。 Hell, an auto-buy author。 I own all of her books and I’ve loved them all。 I think of In A Dark, Dark Wood almost daily, because it was the first time I experience how talented Ruth Ware is at creating atmosphere in her books, and One Perfect Couple was no exception。 The pace was fantastic, the tension thick, the premise anxiety inducing。 The characters were worked out well in expert fashion, and I should hope so, because Ware is a thriller writing veteran。 But I think the fault lies here with me。 I don’t watch much reality TV - except for 90 Day Fiancé, ok lol - so the whole Love Island and Survivor craze has totally gone over my head。 It isn’t something that interests me, and that translated to this book。 I wanted to skim through it because stranded on a deserted island is not a trope I heavily enjoy。 With all my criticism, I still think you should give One Perfect Couple a try when it’s published in May, especially if you loved Love Island! Ruth Ware is a talented writer who usually never fails to suck me into the deeply atmospheric worlds she cultivates。 I will continue to happily display anything she writes, and that’s a promise。 。。。more

Overall, a great thrilling thriller that really entices the reader back to the book each time they put it back down。 Unpredictable and really well written。 A great yet emotional ending。I am a SURVIVOR apparently! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book。。 The best way that I can describe this novel is — reality TV meets the Hunger Games。 It’s a good guy vs bad guy kind of read。There was not much to the plot。 I was expecting a thriller, edge of my seat, nail biting experience。 This novel was entertaining but not one that I’d broadcast out as a must read。 This book left me thirsty…… it for more pages but for actual water。 If you read it, you’ll get it。

This was a hard one to rate + review。 The beginning was a tad boring but when it picked up… OH IT PICKED UP!!! I was so anxious reading, and I constantly found myself thinking about what the hell is going to happen next。 It ended up taking a turn into a storyline I didn’t see coming (but clearly loved and respected)。 There was no real surprise ending or insane twist, rather one that made sense and gave us readers closure。 Overall: 4 stars & would recommend!

“One Perfect Couple” by Ruth Ware is a high-stakes thriller of a mystery set on a desert island in the middle of the Indian Ocean。 I found it well-written and absorbing with lots of suspense。Lyla is a London scientist whose latest experiment has not worked out—unfortunate, since her job depends on it and since she is supporting her live-in boyfriend, Nico, an actor who rarely gets work。 But then Nico’s agent puts both of them up for a new Reality TV game show on an island far off the coast of In “One Perfect Couple” by Ruth Ware is a high-stakes thriller of a mystery set on a desert island in the middle of the Indian Ocean。 I found it well-written and absorbing with lots of suspense。Lyla is a London scientist whose latest experiment has not worked out—unfortunate, since her job depends on it and since she is supporting her live-in boyfriend, Nico, an actor who rarely gets work。 But then Nico’s agent puts both of them up for a new Reality TV game show on an island far off the coast of Indonesia。 A new resort is just being built there and the owners are lending it to the producers。 To Lyla, the project seems completely “not her thing,” if not a bit dodgy。 But Nico begs her to say yes。 He just knows this is the chance he’s been waiting for to make it big。 How can she refuse him? They, the other cast members, and the producers and crew travel from Jakarta to the island by yacht。 Filming and the contest begin。 A contestant is eliminated and sent back to the yacht to be returned to Jakarta, along with the rest of the crew who will return in the morning to continue filming。 That night, a hurricane hits the island and causes death and massive damage。 The yacht never returns。 No one answers the survivors’ calls for help via a radio with a rapidly dwindling battery。 And then the murders begin。Ruth Ware has given us an intriguing plot。 Even though readers will recognize elements from Reality TV series such as “Survivor” and “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette,” and fiction such as “Lost” and “Lord of the Flies,” the story nevertheless has a good deal of originality。 The characters are interesting。 The major players are well-drawn and we care about what happens to them。 The setting, as well as the challenges the characters face, are well imagined and described。A solid four-star mystery/thriller。My thanks to NetGalley, author Ruth Ware, and publisher Gallery Books | Gallery/Scout Press for providing me with a complimentary ARC。 The foregoing is my independent opinion。 。。。more

"One Perfect Couple" kept me on the edge of my seat, with thrills, chills, and great atmosphere。 A group of couples join a reality show set on a island full of natural and unnatural dangers。 Ware is a master of the thriller genre, so I knew I was in for a fast and fun ride。 Recommended for fans of domestic thrillers, reality television, and Ruth Ware's work。 Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。#OnePerfectCouple "One Perfect Couple" kept me on the edge of my seat, with thrills, chills, and great atmosphere。 A group of couples join a reality show set on a island full of natural and unnatural dangers。 Ware is a master of the thriller genre, so I knew I was in for a fast and fun ride。 Recommended for fans of domestic thrillers, reality television, and Ruth Ware's work。 Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。#OnePerfectCouple 。。。more

⭐️ 4 ⭐️Ruth Ware is high on my list of favourite auto-read authors。 I love her writing style and knack of always hooking me in from the beginning — One Perfect Couple was no exception。 I was pulled aboard from the start and devoured the book in two sittings。 The characters (mostly unlikeable) are well rounded, and their dialogue is natural and believable。 I love a locked-room (style) thriller, and the remote, uninhabited, isolated island provides the perfect background to the story, giving it a ⭐️ 4 ⭐️Ruth Ware is high on my list of favourite auto-read authors。 I love her writing style and knack of always hooking me in from the beginning — One Perfect Couple was no exception。 I was pulled aboard from the start and devoured the book in two sittings。 The characters (mostly unlikeable) are well rounded, and their dialogue is natural and believable。 I love a locked-room (style) thriller, and the remote, uninhabited, isolated island provides the perfect background to the story, giving it a claustrophobic sense of atmosphere。 Overall, another brilliant, twisty, unpredictable, enjoyable read from Ruth Ware。 Many thanks to the publisher for my proof copy, in exchange for an honest, unbiased review。 。。。more

Always desperately waiting for the new Ruth Ware so can't wait to read this one!I always think Ruth Ware's books have eras。 Her first few are locked room, twisty, cinematic mystery thrillers。 Her middle era had atmospheric, gothic mysteries with incredibly vivid settings, and her recent few have been more fast-paced。 This one sounds like a mix of early and late era, but I'll be curious to see when I read it where it fits!
